Short Films

I got the impression that this film was based at break time in and infant school and the young children are playing a game of chase, but call it 'homey'. I found this film really interesting to watch, which made me really enjoy watching this short film. This film, for me, was displaying a real life situation for young children and it is also very relatable as I remember having these types of experiences when I was a young child playing games on the playground with my friends. Along with this, I thought that the camera angles used were really effective as it portrayed the idea that this is taken very seriously and it isn’t just a game to the characters. The use of sound accompanied by the facial expressions on these children's faces made it so easy to understand how each child was feeling and made you aware of what each child was thinking at that moment in time. The setting of the film also added to the effectiveness as this made it a lot easier for the audience to understand what was happening and what the whole narrative is actually about. I believe that this short film has the potential to win the Virgin media shorts award and I would recommend all of my friends to watch this.

I also really enjoyed watching this short film. The main reason I enjoyed watching this film was because it was a really original, unique idea. I believe that the genre for this film is comedy and it suited my taste rather well. The ideas that this person has come up with for their short film were really interesting and eye-catching, as if the film was displaying what was going on in the young boys mind whilst waiting for the lights to change. Also, as if he was imagining this is what would happen. The bright colours of the costume also indicated to the audience and made clear whom they were supposed to be and made it so you connect the lights with these characters immediately. The special effects used in this film, for example at the beginning when the red man’s head is cut off, are done very effectively and make them film seem realistic even though it seems like an impossible occurrence. Overall, the film is very comical and conveys a child’s thought very well.

The Birthday Party

The Birthday Party

'The Birthday Party' was a task which involved a photo shoot using the theme of a 'birthday party' using a genre of our choice.

As part of the preparation for this task, I gathered props together to create a realistic looking party. As it has recently been my younger sister's birthday, i had all of the props etc. that we needed. The colour scheme we chose was pink, as we had originally intended for our model to be a young girl having a party, but when we started to put everything together, we changed our mind. This is because we believed that a boy dressing up as a girl would be more comical to fit our genre.

The props we used were; a table cloth, balloons, plates and cutlery, cupcakes, candles, bowls, confetti and birthday cards.

Here is my rough draft of how i wanted my table spread to look:

Here are the final images from our 'Birthday Party' photo shoot:

The Story

My story was about a 40 year old man who was always treated as a girl when he was younger because his parents always wanted a baby girl and instead they had a boy.
So, because of the way he was treated, this had an affect on him psychologically and now he enjoys pretending to be a girl at the age of 40.
